Eat, Love, Pray & Play Bali – Part 3.
Royal High Tea in Seminyek, Bali? And tarot readings? True – Biku, sited in a 150 year-old “joglo” traditional Javanese wooden house, is an eclectic tea salon and cafe owned by Jero Asri Kerthyasa, royal princess of Ubud; a Sydney-born lady who married the Prince of Ubud. Tarot readings are available for dining customers at Biku on Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 1pm-5pm at Rp150,000 for a 15min reading.
The house, formerly an antique shop, is beautiful restored and dressed up in bohemian decor, with intricate chandeliers dangling from the roof beam; ethnic ornaments; vintage knick-knacks scattered around, many of which are for sale.
There’s long table laden with the specialities of the house – cakes, pastries and local desserts.
Al fresco dining is also available in a small a shaded garden.
The signature offering is of course the Traditional Afternoon Tea that comes with the full-works of fresh-baked scones, strawberries and cream, cucumber and smoked salmon sandwiches, and a few pastries served on a classic flora plate-stand. You have a selection of tea that is served in a prettily-dressed pot.
There’s also a wide selection of interesting western and Asian lunch dishes available.
Biku is great place to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon, enjoy an authentic high tea, browse the wares on sale; or just an escape for a relaxing respite from the shopping frenzy around the area.
