Opened in March 2014, My Little Tapas Bar is the sister outlet to My Little Spanish Place. I’ve been here a number of times, and it has gotten even better and remains as one of my fave tapas bar.
Club Street is Singapore’s answer to Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong; it’s pedestrianised over the weekend, starting Fridays, and a magnet for tourists and executives working in the creative businesses nestled around the area thirsting for after-office drinks. Club Street was bustling when we got there.
Occupying a quaint shophouse, the narrow interior is warm and inviting, with exposed brick walls and Spanish paraphernalia befitting a Spanish joint. Service was pretty sharp despite the crowd.
There’s a few legs of Jamon on display for your selection of ham platter.
The jar of Sangria came with a small bowl of PATATAS PICANTONAS for a $2 add-on, feisty fried potatoes with spicy tomato alioli to whet our appetite.
One of the highlights is the PIMENTOS PIQUILLOS CON MOUSSE DE MANCHEGO, peppers with Manchego cheese moussse, the juxtaposition of the sweet peppers and savoury fluid cheese is heavenly.
Few places do octopus well – My Little Tapas bar is one; the PULPO A LA GALLEGA,
sliced tender and smoky octopus with paprika and olive oil, was delicious with the potato puree.
A simple dish but one that is well put together – HUEVOS AL NIDO was poached egg quickly fried, with truffle oil fries and crispy Jamon.
The ALMEJAS CON ALGAS, appeared as clams cooked with seaweed and fino sherry wine. the clams were decent but the sauce was delightfully aromatic and piquant; totally mopped up with the toasted bread.
I must say the BERENJENNA A LA MANCHEGO, eggplant toast with Manchego cheese is one of the most intriguing dish of the evening. Sounds like a plain dish but the combination of ingredients and textures delivered an explosion of flavours.
My Little Tapas Bar has grown from strength to strength. A highly recommended place to gather with friends for drinks and tapas in one of the most happening and quaint part of Singapore. In fact, one of my friends just commented that this place is better then Esquina, the hip tapas joint owned by celeb Chef Jason Atherton.
